EXCLUSIVE: Premier’s controversial offer to Nationals MP to be referred to ICAC
The NSW Nationals are preparing a referral to ICAC to investigate NSW Premier Chris Minns’ offer to Nationals MP Ben Franklin for the Upper House president position.
Ray Hadley exclusively revealed this latest development with the Nationals set to meet at 10.30am to discuss the matter.
“The Nationals have referred this matter to the ICAC because they believe it is linked to political inducements – unbelievable,” said Ray.
It’s understood the Nationals will argue the case of political inducement given the friendship between Franklin and the Premier, and the offer of a high-paying role in exchange for a vote on the floor of parliament.
Ben Franklin’s willingness to take the role is also being seriously questioned by his Nationals colleagues – many of whom think it is an act of treachery.
Nationals leader Paul Toole has stated, “As part of the Coalition agreement, no Liberal or National party member of the Upper House is to stand for the president or the vice-president position.”
