ACT government under fire over its takeover of Calvary Public Hospital

Clinton Maynard

Luke is joined by Jeremy Hanson CSC, Liberals Member for Murrumbidgee & Deputy Leader of the Opposition, about the ACT government’s plan to take over Calvary Public Hospital in Bruce.

The government wants to replace the existing 76-year agreement with a new 25-year one with the decision following strained relations between the government and the Catholic operator.

The government aims to have Canberra Health Services take over health service delivery at Calvary’s Bruce campus within two months.

Mr Hanson has called for a royal commission into the ACT’s health system – and the Catholic Church opposes the takeover with Father Tony Percy saying the government’s decision was “basically religious bigotry writ large”.
