EXCLUSIVE | Boyd Cordner backs Nicho Hynes for Blues halves spot
Former NSW Captain Boyd Cordner believes Nicho Hynes deserves a starting debut for the Blues as they fight to save the State of Origin series in Brisbane in game two.
With Nathan Cleary ruled out of the remaining two matches after suffering a hamstring strain in his team’s win over the Dragons last week, NSW Coach Brad Fittler is searching for a new playmaker.
Hynes who played off the bench in his Origin debut in the series opener, is in contention alongside Mitchell Moses, Adam Reynolds and Cody Walker along with incumbent five-eighth Jarome Luai.
Cordner, who played 16 Origins for the Blues, says he’d like to see the reigning Dally M Medal winner start in the halves in game two.
“If anything, if it’s not Nicho (at halfback), I’d like to see Nicho at five-eighth,” Cordner said.
“And (Adam Reynolds) in at halfback there with (Damien) Cook at hooker that’s the only thing.
“But if not, I’m happy for Nicho to come in and Jarome (Luai) to be at five-eighth.”
Game two will be played at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday June 21.
