Clinton Maynard is joined by Darren Pauli, Telstra’s Cyber Security Expert, about new research that reveals Aussies aren’t protecting themselves online. This comes as Australians have already lost $194 million this year (January to April 2023) to scams and hacking.

The research from Telstra reveals the majority (78%) of the nation are using the same password across more than one account with pets, sports teams, and birthdates among the most used and predictable passwords.  Furthermore, the equivalent of 1.4 million Australians use the same password across 10 or more different devices or accounts.

As well, almost half (46%) of Aussies admit to having used easy-to-guess passwords for their devices and online services/platforms. These include using their pet’s name (20%), “generic” passwords (13%) such as “password”, “123abc”, “123456” or “987654”, their birthdate (17%) or even their favourite sporting team (9%).
