North Queensland Cowboys star Tom Dearden has credited Maroons Coach Billy Slater for helping develop his career, as he pushes for an Origin recall.

Dearden played a crucial role in last year’s Origin decider helping Queensland claim the series in Slater’s first year as coach, replacing Cameron Munster who was ruled out late with Covid.

With Reece Walsh suspended, there are reports Dearden could come in at five-eighth with Munster to switch to fullback.

Dearden, who was instrumental in the Cowboys 74-0 thrashing of the Tigers last night, told The Continuous Call Team what he learned from Slater last year.

“What he does in his video sessions, it just gives you more confidence as a player,” Dearden said.

“He’s so composed as a coach and you just feel really comfortable learning off him and the instructions he gives you.”
