‘Pay a bit of respect’: Bill Shorten rips into Peter Dutton’s Garma rejection

Labor MP Bill Shorten has ripped into Peter Dutton’s rejection to attend Garma during an interview on Question Time.

Deborah Knight posed the question of Dutton’s attendance as ‘an opportunity to listen’, to which Liberal MP Angus Taylor defended the Opposition leader and his frequent visits to Indigenous communities.

Bill Shorten fired up in response and emphasised the importance of Garma: “It is an event organised by Aboriginal people”.

“And if they’ve invited Mr Dutton, which they have, why is it that Mr Dutton chooses when he schedules to see Aboriginal people, rather than perhaps pay a bit of respect and go to an event which Aboriginal people own?” he continued.
