Which state in Australia has the most political power?
Luke speaks with James Massola, National Affairs Editor at the Herald, about his thought-provoking piece yesterday, which makes the point that state power can be measured in a number of ways.
Since Federation, NSW and Victoria have competed to be considered the most consequential state with the biggest economy or population.
But economic heft and population size are just two measures of power. A state’s political influence can also be measured by the number of seats around the cabinet table, who sits in them, and even how many marginal seats a state contains.
In order, Mr Massola sets out to list the states with the most political power and most surprising is that both NSW and Victoria aren’t in the top two.
