CEO of the Committee for Sydney, Eamon Waterford has spoken out about the impact of the NIMBY attitude on new housing developments ahead of tonight’s SBS Insight.

This comes amidst rising tension between NIMBYs, who say (not in my backyard) and YIMBYs on housing development.

NIMBYs are challenging said developments, whilst others argue that such attitudes will negatively affect housing affordability.

Waterford raised the issue of giving people control of shared spaces, to the extent in which it could impact culture and music.

“This speaks to a tough conversation we got to have as a community [about] what right do we have to control the spaces that we live in?”, Waterford said.

“And we should have some right… to a quiet and safe experience in our lives… but, we also need to share that space”.
