‘Facts are the facts’: Dutton responds to Uluru Statement uproar

Article image for ‘Facts are the facts’: Dutton responds to Uluru Statement uproar

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has responded to the criticism he and others have faced for suggesting that the Uluru Statement from the Heart is more than a one-page document.

The debate surrounding this issue has been a major topic of discussion this week, particularly after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese used Question Time to display an A4-sized piece of paper, referencing the 2017 document.

“We have all sorts of conspiracy stuff out there, but this is a ripper,” Albanese said during Question Time on Tuesday. “That is the Uluru Statement from the Heart on an A4 bit of paper. That is it.”

During his recent appearance on Ray’s show, Dutton was presented with audio from a 2018 speech by Professor Megan Davis, who had referred to the document as being “18 pages long” at the time.

“I don’t understand why the Prime Minister or others needs to misrepresent the situation,” Dutton responded on 2GB.
