‘Biological impossibility’: Equine scientist rejects brumby count figures
Equine scientist, Joanne Canning, who has dedicated three years to researching the topic, discussed the estimated brumby population in Kosciuszko national park.
Canning explained that the official figures highlighted a brumby population increase of 37%, but she quickly discovered it neglected the number of horses removed a year.
“And it meant that the increase would have had to be 41% per [year]”, Canning continued.
“The scientific maximum is around 20% per annum and that’s in ideal conditions”.
