Professor David Flint weighs in on the Voice ‘ticks & crosses’ voting

Clinton Maynard

Luke speaks with regular guest Professor David Flint to look at the referendum ‘ticks and crosses’ issue.  Dominating debate over the last few days, he thinks the AEC is wrong on crosses and they should represent a “No” vote, but getting a change before this referendum will not happen.

Professor Flint brings next level knowledge of referendums from being at the head of the “No” case in the 1999 Republic Referendum.  In 1999, when the AEC took the same view on crosses, there were people wanting the no case to appeal.

He remembers believing that an appeal would fail, noting it would tie up resources and be extremely demoralising.
