Report urges NSW to retain fossil fuels while upping renewable investment
An independent report commissioned by NSW Energy Minister Penny Sharpe has outlined the critical need for coal, gas, and renewables to coexist to maintain energy stability.
The report recommends building gas storage facilities and subsidising smart meters on solar panels as well as adding more electric vehicle charging points, and community batteries in local parks.
Chris O’Keefe suggested, “If we want to drive down emissions as well as keeping bills affordable, we have to spend a fortune and do everything at once.”
Penny Sharpe agreed, stating, “We definitely have to do everything at once. It’s extremely important to race to reduce emissions and to deal with the exit of coal-fired power.”
