The fire ant fight heats up

Families, travelling to and from known fire ant hotspots, are being asked to keep an eye out for stowaways.

If spread further, the species could cost the economy $2 billion a year and cut agriculture output by up to 40%

Rural editor Sophie Clarke caught up with Invasive Species Council conservation officer Reece Pianta to find out more about the issue, and how travellers can help stop the spread during school holidays.
