The life and times of the eccentric American philanthropist Charles Feeney
This week one of the world’s great philanthropists Charles ‘Chuck’ Feeney passed away in San Francisco aged 92. Having made his fortune by co-founding the airport retail chain Duty-Free Shopping, Charles went on to donate 12 billion dollars during his lifetime and $350 million to Queensland science institutes. Emeritus Professor Perry Bartlett, the founding director of UQ’s Queensland Brain Institute, tells Michael McLaren about the man behind the fortune.
