The Prime Minister condemned the incident, highlighting the “dangerous” conduct that caused injury to a diver.  While Albanese acknowledged conveying objections through diplomatic channels, he evaded confirming discussions with President Xi.

Opposition members found his response evasive, suggesting a missed opportunity to address Australian concerns at the highest level.

The incident, revealed after the APEC conference, involved a Chinese destroyer knowingly using sonar near Australian divers in Japan’s exclusive economic zone, raising safety concerns.
