Celebrated Mullin museum in Oxnard, California to close it’s doors next month
As a somewhat smitten devotee of French classic cars, I was saddened this week
by the news that the celebrated Mullin Museum in Oxnard, California, south of
Pebble Beach, was closing its doors next month. Opened in 2010 by car
enthusiast and philanthropist Peter Mullin this collection of over 60 rare and
exquisite French cars mostly from the Art Deco period was in my opinion the best
in the world – rare Bugatti’s, Delahaye’s, Delage’s, Citroen’s and the like with
stunning coachwork beautifully displayed with French sculptures, furniture and
artifacts it was a must see when visiting Pebble Beach Concours. Mullin died
aged 92 last September and apart from six cars going to the equally impressive
Peterson Museum in Los Angeles some 20 cars will go under the hammer at
Goodings Amelia Island auction in late February. A really sad day for French car
fanciers.
