Pets on planes: Dog expert says pets are more polite than humans

Clinton Maynard

Kathy Kopellis McLeod, a dog behavior expert, discusses with Mike Virgin’s new initiative allowing small pets in airplane cabins, which has drawn attention to other passenger grievances, including rude behavior such as personal grooming, loud phone use, and offensive odors.

Ms McLeod highlights the anthropocentric view that pets are inferior, despite often displaying better behavior than some humans on flights.

She also questions whether a well-behaved crated pet poses a greater offense than poorly behaved passengers and suggests they may be preferable seatmates.
