Tackling mental health in cosmetic procedures

Mike Jeffreys

Mike discusses the rise in cosmetic procedures with Associate Professor Gemma Sharp from Monash University.

Professor Sharp, Head of the Body Image & Eating Disorders Research Program and senior clinical psychologist in the Monash University Department of Neuroscience, highlights a new online course developed by Monash University and the Cosmetic Physicians College of Australasia called “On the face of it – Understanding AHPRA’s guidelines on mental health assessment of cosmetic patients.”

The course aims to equip health practitioners with the latest research and expertise to assess the mental health of cosmetic patients effectively.

The professor emphasises the importance of collaboration between cosmetic and mental health practitioners, as body image concerns often drive individuals to seek cosmetic procedures.
