Significant rise in four major criminal offences in NSW since 2019

Clinton Maynard

Clinton is joined by Jackie Fitzgerald, Executive Director of the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research, to highlight concerning trends:

Over the past five years, sexual assault reports surged by 42%, driven mainly by adult cases (62% increase) and historical child cases (92% increase).

Domestic violence-related assaults rose by 15%, driven by family violence and intimate partner assaults.

Non-domestic assaults increased against adult women and youth. Residential and school premises saw notable rises in incidents.

However, robbery, stealing from motor vehicles, and malicious damage to property decreased, while other offences remained stable.
