Bridgerton fans petition for white & heterosexual
Do only heterosexual skinny white people deserve love?
Bridgerton fans seem to think so. When Julia Quinn, the author of Bridgerton, agreed to change a heterosexual character to a lesbian one, over 40,000 fans protested. They opposed including lesbians in Regency England, preferring the show to remain white and heterosexual, excluding queer audiences.
This season’s lead, Nicola Coughlan, has also faced attacks for her body size, with comments claiming a “fat girl winning the prince” is implausible. With WHO research indicating 43% of adults are overweight, such fans seem to believe nearly half the world doesn’t deserve love.
Mike is joined by dating coach Karina Chapman & founder of Aligned Connections, who asserts that all singles, regardless of size, race, or sexuality, deserve love and that diversity should be celebrated, not attacked.
