‘So surreal’: Aussie doubles pair in disbelief after winning gold in Paris
Australia has made history in Olympic tennis, winning a gold in the event for the first time since Atlanta in 1996.
Veteran pairing Matt Ebden and John Peers combined to hold their never in the gold medal match against Americans Austin Krajicek Rajeev Ram, winning 6-7 (6), 7-6 (1), 10-8.
Ebden told Nine Radio their gold medal was a fairytale story of persistence, still in disbelief at the magnitude of his team’s achievements.

“It’s so surreal,” Ebden said.
“It’s so different to the slams, the Olympics are a rare thing every four years just to play in it, let alone win a gold medal.
“It’s one of those fairytale things that somehow happens to some people.”
