Michael McLaren has gone into detail as to why universal dental care is not on the cards.

He points out various organisations and political parties have costed universal dental care policies and also points out the policy wouldn’t be free for all.

“In an ideal world, I’d love dental into medicare … it makes no sense to exclude teeth from the rest of the body when it comes to publicly-funded healthcare, but that’s what we’ve done since the ’70s and I don’t see it changing,” he said.
