Public sector nurses and midwives in NSW will strike today against the Labor government’s proposed 9.5% pay increase over three years, which they argue fails to keep up with inflation and worsens real wages.

With living costs for “employee households” rising by 6.2% last year, the offer falls short of addressing their concerns.

The NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association has organized rallies following months of smaller protests.

Clinton speaks with the NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association Secretary Shaye Candish, who complains that the government had not made an improved pay offer, “despite the fact that we’ve jumped through every hoop that’s been asked of us, including finding the savings needed to pay for the pay rise that we have sought.”
