Senator Hanson calls for ‘Welcome To Country’ ban

Mike Jeffreys

Mike is joined by Pauline Hanson, Senator for Queensland and leader of One Nation, who has called for an end to ‘Welcome to Country’ ceremonies after a controversial version was performed by Aboriginal Elder Brendan Kerin at the AFL semi-final between GWS and the Brisbane Lions.

Kerin explained that the ceremony welcomes visitors to the land, not to Australia, and highlighted its long history, saying it has been conducted “for 250,000 years-plus” and “BC, Before Cook.”

Senator Hanson responded by calling the ceremonies “racially divisive” in a post to her 135,000 followers on X.
