Aussies crack down on dodgy tax practices
Clinton is joined by ATO Assistant Commissioner Tony Goding, who reveals Australians are taking action by tipping off the ATO about undeclared income, cash payments to dodge tax and super, unreported sales, and lifestyles that don’t match declared earnings.
Businesses have been warned that the public is increasingly frustrated with shady tax practices, especially using cash to avoid taxes, and are reporting such behaviors in large numbers.
The shadow economy, which includes unreported legal and illegal activities, is costing Australia an estimated $16 billion in unpaid taxes annually.
