Islam June 7 2016
Well, it was New Year’s Day 2015 that Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, called on Muslim religious leaders to reform Islam
Addressing Muslim clerics President Sisi said “you imams are responsible before Allah – the world is waiting for your next move because the Islamic world is being torn, it is being lost – and it is being lost by our own hands”
He asked “is it possible that 1.6 billion Muslims should want to kill the rest of the world’s inhabitants so that they themselves may live? Impossible!”
He said “we are in need of a religious revolution”
But more than 2 years on, there is no evidence of a “religious revolution” within Islam
Individual Muslims are advocating reform
But how much support do they receive?
Sheik Mohammad Tawhidi, an imam with the Islamic Association of South Australia, was forced into hiding in April by the same people who forced the cancellation of Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s Australian tour
Sheik Tawhidi has called for the closure of Muslim schools and for the appointment of women to Australia’s National Imams Council
He says he his office received 500 calls between January 2016 and April 2017 from Muslim women whose “husbands beat them”
He said “when I speak like this they’ll kill me because I’m saying it from the inside”
Why are Muslim reformers like this forced into hiding?
Why haven’t police weeded out those who have threatened Sheik Tawhidi and Ayaan Hirsi Ali?
