Mike Hussey said it’s been “fascinating” cricket.

“We want to see a good contest between bat and ball, not a ‘bat-a-thon’ where one team makes 500 and the other team does too,” Hussey said.

“We’ve seen a good tough, tense battle, some imaginative captaincy, and rear-guard action from the batsmen.

“That’s what Test cricket is all about.”

STUMPS

A roller-coaster of a day has come to an end.

England started the day on top with a strong stand between Dawid Malan and Moeen Ali.

However the Aussies rallied to take 6/56 and dismiss England by lunch.

England then claimed four early wickets in Australia’s innings, before Steve Smith and Shaun Marsh steadied the ship.

The pair have added 89 to lead Australia to 4/165 by the end of the day.

Mike Hussey said both sides had periods on top during the first session.

He said it was a “poor shot” from Dawid Malan that turned the game in Australia’s favour.

“Then, Moeen fell in the next over,” Hussey said.

“So there’s two new batsmen, the Australians had their tails up, and were able to get on top.”

Ian Chappell said England were “very guilty” of failing to rotate the strike.
