The state government is under the pump at the moment with the horrific holiday road toll and Sydney Trains at the top of a long list of issues.

Mark Levy grills Premier Gladys Berejiklian on the problems facing her government saying, “you’ve certainly come back to a bit of a mess”.

392 people lost their lives on NSW roads in 2017, 28 of those deaths came in the Christmas holiday period, including the Falkholt family at the hands of a drug driver.

“Yesterday we announced a crackdown on drug testing because I think people are getting the message about alcohol abuse behind the wheel… but with the proliferation of drug use, we haven’t been as vigilant in relation to that.

“We’re going to double the number of tests we do roadside, we’ve included cocaine on the list of drugs that’ll be tested… we’re also increasing the penalty to make it equal to high range drink driving.

But the Premier has stopped short of banning methadone users from driving with the drug in their system.

As for the Sydney Trains debacle, Ms Berejiklian insisted disgruntled passengers won’t be receiving a refund, saying, “There’s no precedent for that in NSW”.

Mark corrected the Premier, reminding her of mass refunds handed out by Bob Carr in 2004.
