Murray Darling Basin debacle explained
Politics has again got in the way of the delivery of the Murray Darling Basin Plan.
Yesterday was the deadline for the Senate to vote on a disallowance motion put forward by Greens Senator Sarah Hanson Young.
It was trying to stop the Coalition reducing water recovery in the Northern Basin by 70 Giga Litres – a figure recommended to the Government by the Murray Darling Basin Authority.
But to the disappointment of many communities reliant on the river system, the motion passed the Senate 32 to 30.
