Low range drink drivers could dodge court
A NSW government proposal could see low range drink drivers dodging court altogether.
Instead, offenders would receive automatic demerit points and mandatory disqualification of their licence.
Chris Smith has slammed the move as a “dead set slap on the wrist”.
Managing Partner at Armstrong Legal, John Sutton, tells Chris Smith our system is working well and changes aren’t necessary.
“The system is actually working. You can probably tell I’ve got my back up about this subject.
“The Victorian system they’re proposing we move to has a… repeat offender rate of 29%.
“In other words, near enough one in every three people who are dealt with for low range drink driving will commit the same offence again.”
Mr Sutton says repeat offender rates in NSW have decreased, proving the current system works.
