The sheds act as a dedicated space for men to work on projects and talk openly about their lives.

But the ladies are now demanding entry.

Bettina Arndt tells Chris Smith the situation is “complicated”.

“Sometimes the push is coming from councils because councils provide money for the shed.

“Sometimes there are women who think it’s not fair women should be excluded from these facilities.

“This is the group that is at highest risk of suicide in Australia, I think the sheds having been doing a terrific job… providing the opportunity to talk about things they wouldn’t talk about when women are around.”
