The father of Australian Rugby Sevens captain James Stannard says his son is still in a “serious way” after being coward punched on Good Friday.

James has spoken for the first time since allegedly being attacked by a 22-year-old man on Coogee Bay Road after farewell celebrations for coach Andy Friend.

Mark Stannard phoned Alan Jones to thank him and thousands of others for their support.

“He’s in a serious way. He’s got some concerns.

“He’s got a fractured skull, he’s got bleeding between his brain and his skull, he’s got bleeding out his right ear and he’s got concussion symptoms.

“They’re saying he’s likely to make a full recovery.”
