First pill testing operation became ‘a legal free-for-all’
Australia’s first official pill testing operation has taken place over the weekend in Canberra, with the ACT Opposition slamming the move.
Over 100 festival-goers at the Groovin’ the Moo music event offered up 85 illicit pills for testing, with two found to be deadly and discarded but the others returned to participants.
The move was supported by police and the ACT government but the Opposition was staunchly against it.
ACT Shadow Attorney-General Jeremy Hanson tells Ben Fordham the operation sends a bad message.
“It’s something obviously that we don’t support.
“It’s sending a very bad message out there to people that might be in two minds about whether they’re going to take drugs or not.
“It became a legal free-for-all, a go zone where you could take drugs.”
