Two police officers have leapt into the Parramatta River after a stolen car plunged into the water.
Emergency services were called to the scene at about 10.30pm after reports the vehicle ploughed through a Parramatta park, over an embankment and into the river.
The vehicle was partially submerged when officers arrived. They raced into the water to check if anyone was inside but found the vehicle empty.
Checks revealed the vehicle was stolen and may have been taken from a nearby service station hours earlier.
Police began searching the river and surrounding areas but found nothing.
The vehicle has since been towed and investigations are continuing.
