The son of two people killed when flight MH17 was shot down over Ukraine is calling for Russia to be held to account.

A team of international investigators has found the missile which brought the passenger plane down belonged to the Russian military.

298 people were killed in the blast, including 38 Australians.

Two of those Australians were Roger and Jill, Paul Guard’s parents.

Paul tells Ben Fordham Australia needs to put the pressure on Russia to take responsibility.

“Julie Bishop has flagged the possibility of diplomatic action.”

“I think some sort of symbolic diplomatic gesture would be worthwhile, at least in terms of putting as much pressure on Russia as we can to be upfront with the facts and to own up to its part in the incident.”

Paul says the MH17 attack is part of a much greater tragedy.

“The fact that a conflict ever flared up in Eastern Ukraine is really something that’s quite amazing to me.

“That’s really what I blame for the whole thing, is the conflict itself.”
