Ray Hadley unleashes on Corrections Minister over Kempsey jail ‘disgrace’
Ray Hadley has taken NSW Corrections Minister David Elliott to task after a female prison guard maintained a sexual relationship with a cop killer for more than a year.
The woman is married with two children and there are claims, denied by the officer’s family, that she is now pregnant to Penisini.
The officer is also accused of trafficking drugs, steroids and mobile phones into the jail.
Ray Hadley has also revealed Corrective Services NSW Commissioner Peter Severin knew about the relationship more than three weeks ago.
Minister Elliott says he was “formally notified” about the incident after Penisini allegedly assaulted another inmate at the jail on Friday.
He tells Ray he didn’t step in because he doesn’t “micromanage operations” but Ray says that’s absurd.
Ray: “You don’t think you should have been told that a man that murdered a police officer was having sex with one of your officers?”
Elliott: “What I am told and what I’m not told over the course of an ongoing investigation is deep-seated protocols and it is not appropriate for politicians…”
Ray: “You’re the minister! This is a cop killer.”
Elliott: “Can I finish?”
Ray: “You might be finished… if you keep going with this I’ll tell you. Gladys Berejiklian might tap you on the shoulder and say you’re not up for the job.”
Despite revelations Commissioner Severin and his assistant Kevin Corcoran knew about the affair for weeks, Minister Elliott is refusing calls for them to be sacked.
“I’m not going to be calling on anybody’s resignation until I’ve seen the investigation and charges have been laid. Like all of these matters, we’ve got to go through due process.”

President of the NSW Police Association Tony King called in while Minister Elliott was on-air, confronting him over the disgrace at Kempsey.
“This is just total lack of respect, how can a police killer be one-out with a correctional officer?
“This person killed a police officer. It is just incompetency of the highest order that this person can be one-out with a prison officer, let alone a female prison officer. It’s a slap in the face.”
Ray is calling on NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian to intervene immediately.
“This is just the most disgusting thing I’ve ever dealt with and it appears to me that unless the media is making the running, with the help of whistleblowers, we’re all absolutely stumped.”
