A man who has never held a driver’s licence is accused of going on a rampage in a stolen truck in Sydney’s inner west.
At about 6.30pm, a 33-year-old Coles delivery woman parked her truck on Maze Crescent at Darlington.
While she was making a delivery, a man allegedly jumped in the cab and drove off.
The truck went on a rampage through Darlington, Erskineville, Dulwich Hill and over to Ashfield, crashing into at least five vehicles along the way.
Police spotted the truck on Thomas Street at Ashfield and started a pursuit.
At the intersection of Liverpool Road and Frederick Street, the truck crossed four lanes of heavy traffic, before mounting the footpath and travelling into oncoming traffic.
It crashed into another vehicle and became stuck allowing police to pounce and arrest the 22-year-old driver, who tested negative to roadside breath and sobriety tests.
One officer suffered a deep cut to his hand during the arrest and has been taken to hospital for treatment.
The 22-year-old has been charged with nine offences including stealing the vehicle, driving dangerously, running a red light, and never being licensed.
He has been refused bail ahead of a court appearance later today.
