Embattled federal Labor MP Emma Husar has resigned, following claims she bullied former staff and misused her entitlements.

The member for Lindsay has been coming under increasing pressure to quit and has now announced she won’t be contesting her seat at the next election.

The New South Wales branch of the Labor Party had been investigating claims against Ms Husar since March, with over 20 former staff members coming forward with allegations against her.

In an interview with Nine News, Ms Husar maintains her innocence but admits her position has become untenable.

“It’s a sad day.

“It’s a disappointing day for me and I’ve made the agonising decision that I won’t be contesting Lindsay at the next election.”

Nine News State Political Reporter Chris O’Keefe tells Ben Fordham “overwhelmingly, the tide was against her”.

“She said to me that she feels… the damage that’s been done is irreparable so she doesn’t think it’ll ever recover.”

Ms Husar will still sit on the backbench as a Labor MP until a federal election comes around.

Despite facing a staggering number of allegations, Ms Husar insists there’s a conspiracy against her.
