A new home for the greyhounds
The Deputy Premier of NSW and Member for Monaro John Barilaro has announced fresh hopes to bring the greyhounds to Queanbeyan.
Since the ACT’s ban on greyhound racing and trialling in April, racing meets were temporarily rehomed to the Goulburn Greyhound Racing Club.
However, this has left supporters of the industry without a venue for night race meetings.
Today, Mr Barilaro and Minister for Racing Paul Toole announced a $1.2-million investment in the industry for safety improvements and new light installations at the Goulburn track.
The NSW Government and Greyhound Racing NSW have also launched a business case to get the ball rolling and bring the greyhound industry to Queanbeyan.
In a statement today, Mr Barilaro says “Queanbeyan is the ideal location to see racing continue in the region, and is the latest sign of this government’s commitment to a socially responsible and viable greyhound industry.”
“We’re working with New South Wales racing down at the Queanbeyan race club. We’ve been working with the council in identifying the parcels (of land).
“It will be a multi-million dollar investment one that we can’t wait to see happen.” Mr Barilaro tells Ray Hadley.

Ray also questioned Mr Barilaro on the proposed marine park facility right across Sydney harbour and other parts of the coast, saying “I haven’t had a reaction like this with one interview since greyhound bans.
“We can’t have the Greens being pandered to by a conservative government.”
Mr Barilaro assures Ray they would resolve the issue, pledging to “protect the fishers”.
