A state government MP is calling out the Prime Minister over a decision to host a drought summit in Canberra.

NSW Primary Industries Minister Niall Blair is calling out Scott Morrison for holding the meeting in the nation’s capital.

He says the gathering of 130 politicians and stakeholders should be held in a drought-affected community that would benefit from the cash injection.

He tells Ben Fordham it’s a “missed opportunity”.

“We can really inject some money into these communities and get a better understanding about what the local business and local people are facing by actually going to a drought-affected community.

“As the minister responsible for regional New South Wales and the drought, I think that it’s my job to call this out.”

Mr Blair says it’s not too late to change the location, with the summit to be held on October 26.

“Imagine what it would do for some of these small communities if we booked out all the motels and ate in the local restaurants.

“It’s my job to advocate on behalf of New South Wales and our farmers.”
