‘This is not complex construction work’: Transport Minister slams light rail contractor
Transport Minister Andrew Constance believes there’s no reason Sydney’s billion-dollar light rail project can’t be finished by next year.
With less than 600 metres of track left to be laid for the CBD light rail, the company in charge says it won’t be finished until May 2020, 14 months later than originally scheduled.
The Transport Minister is accusing Acciona of understaffing the project, saying it should be completed by early next year.
Mr Constance tells Ben Fordham “it’s laughable” and is putting the pressure on the sub-contractor to get the job done.
“This mob in Sydney, for whatever reason, they are on a go-slow.
“600 metres of track left to go, last year in one week they poured 600 metres of track.”
He says it unacceptable.
“Acciona need to get on and finish this work.
“This is not complex construction work.
“Any global civil contractor worth their salt could do this in months, not years and I just think it’s high time they were given a real kick along.”
