A digital solution for testing elderly drivers
While Australia grapples with the road safety challenge posed by elderly drivers, a team from the University of Queensland has introduced a novel solution.
Their program, “Navigating Fitness to Drive,” uses computer simulations to evaluate cognitive responses to driving hazards.
With testing requirements and medical approvals inconsistent throughout the country, the new tech-driven method may provide a solution.
Dr Geoff Mitchell, GP and Emeritus Professor, spoke to Deborah Knight about the program.
