‘Absolute transparency’: RLPA policy to terminate contracts of unvaccinated players
The Rugby League Players Association is set to hand its vaccine policy recommendation to the NRL tomorrow, pending late feedback from clubs.
RLPA CEO Clint Newton was hesitant to criticise the NRL’s lack of vaccine mandate, but admitted to Mark Levy it has “put some complexity in play”.
“Would it have made the process easier? Maybe, but that’s a big ‘maybe’.”
The RLPA’s draft policy aims to provide “absolute transparency”, making provisions for mutual terminations, and terminations at-law.
“Under our proposal … a club, if they’re wanting to go down that path, they would have to effectively develop a policy … make it a condition of employment … and then communicate that with the player.”
