Action finally taken on transgender athletes in women’s sport
Swimming’s world governing body has made the historic decision to ban transgender athletes from competing in elite women’s races.
Their new policy requires swimmers to have transitioned before the age of 12 in order to compete against women.
A separate trans category will be created.
The rules will only apply at FINA-sanctioned events, including the Olympics and world championships.
Ben Fordham has been campaigning for years for fairness in women’s sport.
“Five years after we sounded the alarm here, the governing body for swimming has finally started to act.”
