Google has partnered with leading hearing experts to look at how artificial intelligence (AI) can be used to solve hearing problems.

With more than 1.5 billion people globally suffering from hearing loss, Google scientist Simon Carlile said they were now able to personalise AI technology for individuals.

“We can carry out a series of very specific clinical tests to identify what actually is the cause of their hearing loss,” Dr Carlile said.

Dr Carlile said one of the biggest downsides of hearing loss was social isolation and depression.
