Alan Jones campaigns against ‘awful’ threat facing taxi drivers
Alan Jones says something needs to be done for taxi drivers who have been struggling since the introduction of ride-share services.
Ride-sharing drivers are only required to pay for comprehensive insurance and a green slip but taxi drivers have to pay for additional cameras, signage, a license fee, radio fee and workers compensation.
“The rules have to be the same for everyone,” Alan said.
“How are taxi drivers supposed to compete or even survive in a climate like his?
“I think this is an awful story.”
NSW Taxi Council CEO Martin Rogers tells Alan it has had a “huge impact” with taxis paying an extra $5000 a year.
“Pre Uber there was probably about 5,500 taxis in Sydney… and now the number of vehicles has more than quadrupled so how do you make ends meet?
“Nobody’s making money.”
