An Independent MP is hopeful voluntary assisted dying will be made law today as it is debated this afternoon.

The bill, tendered by Independent MP Alex Greenwich, would make assisted dying available only to people with terminal illnesses who have less than 12 months to live.

Both Premier Dominic Perrottet and Opposition Leader Chris Minns are expected to vote against it.

Mr Greenwich told Ben Fordham there are amendments to work through.

“That’s their right to have amendments, I just ask that we have a respectful and robust debate that doesn’t waste time.”
