ALP colleague slams ‘gutless’ MP for corruption claims
A state labor MP has launched an “extraordinary attack” on ALP colleague Khal Asfour.
The Member for Bankstown, Tania Mihailuk made a speech under parliamentary privilege so she can’t be sued, hammering Canterbury-Bankstown mayor Khal Asfour, linking him to corrupt former minister Eddie Obeid.
Ms Mihailuk claimed Eddie Obeid, tried to ensure Asfour would be Mayor of the then Bankstown Council, at the same time as Obeid was trying to redevelop the landholdings in Bankstown.
Mr Asfour has been selected to run on Labor’s upper house ticket which would mean he will sit in the Labor caucus with Ms Mihailiuk.
The MP did not want Mr Asfour to make the move from Mayor to State Parliamentarian.
Mr Asfour rejects all claims and told Chris O’Keefe they are a “cowardly” and “outrageous attack”.
“They’re unwarranted and gutless and I challenge Ms Mihailiuk to make these comments in the public arena.”
