AMA President urges state to consider reinstating masks mandates

There is a call for mask mandates to return as COVID hospitalisations continue to rise.

The number of people in hospital and infections among health workers has spiked dramatically this winter.

Australian Medical Association President Omar Khorshid is calling on the government to consider bringing back previous rules.

Dr Khorshid told Ray Hadley mandatory masks would help reduce the number of infections and alleviate pressure from hospitals.

“We need to come together as a community and reduce the spread of this virus,” he said.

“We have to reduce transmission of this virus and that means people doing the right thing.

“It looks like it’s going to be wearing masks in indoor venues so we can get through this spike.”
