Andrew Bogut will make his return to the Sydney Kings after signing a two-year deal on Tuesday, retiring from the NBA.

The deal is set to be lucrative for both the Kings and the NBL, but Bogut has revealed to Ross Greenwood just how close he was to signing with a rival club.

“I was very close to signing with (Melbourne) United,” Bogut says.

“Jeff Van Groningen who I’ve known for a while caught wind of it, got in touch and literally jumped on a plane four hours later.

“I just liked the way they went about their business.”

After an illustrious 13-year stint in America, including a 2015 championship with the Golden State Warriors, Bogut tells Ross how he learned to manage his millions on his own.

He says in the early days of his career, he had “no idea” when it came to managing his money, and would reluctantly leave it to advisers.

“I had no idea how to invest it and where to put it and who to trust.

“I did a course online course through online universities with RMIT in Melbourne.

“I now self-manage all my finances.”
